HU has been an "Excellence University" since June 2012 - it is one of the eleven universities granted additional funding by the German government within the scope of its Excellence Initiative due to the outstanding science and research practiced there. HU's nine faculties cover the classic arts and humanities, cultural studies, law, economics, social and natural sciences, and human medicine. HU is characterised by a marked international mindset and a willingness to embrace reforms. With almost 420 professors and more than 34,000 students, HU is particularly committed to promoting young researchers, and stands for innovative teaching and learning.
