U15 and the Université Sorbonne Paris Cité Sign a Memorandum of Understanding in Berlin, Germany

News vom 21.03.2016

German U15 and USPC signed a cooperation agreement on March 18, 2016 in Berlin. During a general meeting of the association German U15, the presidents of the German U15 member universities and the representatives of the Université Sorbonne Paris Cité agreed on a future cooperation toward the internationalization of higher education. This Memorandum of Understanding serves as a formal basis to extend the effective and mutually beneficial cooperation that already exists between USPC and U15 members and to develop education, research, and cultural exchange between the universities.

In addition to joint research projects, conferences, publications, and language courses, this agreement aims at strengthening cooperation in the fields of humanities and social sciences as well as public health. In December 2015, representatives of both parties met for initial negotiations. The Memorandum of Understanding is signed by Dr. Peter-André Alt, executive board member of German U15, and Prof. Jean-Yves Mérindol, USPC president

About USPC: USPC is a federation of eight self-governing higher education institutions and five research-performing organizations that have come together around one ambitious project. It carries out research as well as teaching and learning across the academic spectrum. USPC is France’s premier research university in area studies, modern languages and linguistics, medicine, and biological sciences. The university is highly ranked in both national and international league tables in such fields as social sciences, mathematical sciences, and earth and space sciences. In 2012 USPC was awarded a ten year investment grant via the French government’s highly selective excellence initiative programme (Idex).

About German U15: Since 2012, U15 has been the strategic interest group for 15 large, internationally renowned universities. We offer a full range of subjects within the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and life sciences. 35% of all foreign students in Germany are enrolled at a U15 university, and 43% of all international doctorates study with us. U15 universities attract two-fifths of public external funding, and as much as 60% of these funds in the medical field. The association represents excellence in research and teaching, presenting itself at the national and international level, in order to capture the interest of students and junior researchers for German universities. U15 has been a member of a globally active network of research universities since 2014.
