U15 believes that supporting junior researchers in their career is an essential aspect of safeguarding Germany's future in the global scientific landscape. Appropriate measures must be taken to improve career opportunities for these scientists at the post-doctoral, and especially during the advanced post-doctoral phase. In order to entice the best post-doctoral scientists to come to German universities and research institutions, we must ensure that they have greater planning security in their careers. German U15 demands that a tenure track system be introduced in Germany, allowing excellent junior scientists to be appointed as professors on a permanent basis following an assessment of their teaching and research performance. In addition, we believe it is essential to introduce a third-party funded career programme that will allow universities to create permanent positions for successful researchers beyond the ones provided for by the university budget.
