VIRTUAL EVENT SERIES PART II
KEY DRIVERS OF FUTURE SMART CITIES

16 February 2021 | 17:00 – 18:00 CET | 16:00 – 17:00 GMT

EVENT SUMMARY

Following our successful five part event series from May to July 2020, we would now like to invite you to join the first session of our virtual event series part II, filled with insights from leading innovation experts from Germany and the UK. The event series is co-organised by the UK Science and Innovation Network Germany (SIN), the German U15 and BABLE, a young Morgenstadt spin-off facilitating innovation in cities.

The overall topic of our second session will be a resilient recovery after the pandemic reflecting on what the crisis has changed in urban areas and how that impacts our view on future smart cities. Together with our two experts from Germany and the UK we will discuss challenges and (smart) approaches of urban sustainability and resilience.

A quick introduction by Prof Dr Anke Struever, University of Graz will concentrate (1) on pandemic urbanism as both challenge and driver for urban sustainability in socio-ecological terms and (2) on smart urbanism’s pitfalls for social justice. Dr Nathaniel O'Grady from the University of Manchester will then will focus specifically on the changing character of public infrastructure and its provision under smart urban initiatives.
